Details: An Australian War Memorial Travelling Exhibition
17 July - 5 September
Gallery 1
Sidney Nolan (1917–1992) was one of Australia’s most complex, innovative, and prolific artists. In 1978 Nolan presented the Gallipoli series to the Australian War Memorial. 252 drawings and paintings, completed over a 20-year period, were donated in memory of his brother Raymond, a soldier who died in a tragic accident just before the end of World War II. Gallipoli was a theme to which Nolan constantly returned throughout his artistic career. Sidney Nolan: The Gallipoli Series showcases a selection of these works, which constitute both a personal and public lament, commemorating not just the death of Nolan’s brother but a campaign that had cost so many Australian
lives. The series was inspired by the Gallipoli campaign as well as the myths and legends of the Trojan Wars and how Australian history and identity are perceived. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity for visitors to experience these striking and iconic works.

Details: 3 September 10am + 1pm
A Monkey Baa and Siren Theatre Co-collaboration. Adapted from the classic picture bookby Margaret Wild & Ron Brooks. Combining a haunting operatic score and breathtaking physicality, this production will see the heart soar as friendship triumphs. An unforgettable experience of loyalty and betrayal that is as rich
for adults as it is for young people.FOX is a beautiful story told through movement, puppetry, projections and opera. Created especially for young people it is a unique and stimulating piece of Australian theatre. Magpie is injured in a bushfire and can no longer fly. She is rescued by one-eyed Dog who takes her back to his cave above the river to tend her burnt wing. They become firm friends and spend the seasons running through the bush - with Magpie on Dog’s back. “Fly Dog Fly. I will be your missing eye and you will be my wings.” Magpie discovers that riding atop Dog feels almost the same as flying. When Fox arrives, he tempts Magpie with an even faster ride. Desire and loyalty become confused and Magpie eventually gives in to Fox and leaves Dog. Magpie feels like she is really flying on Fox’s back as he streaks past coolibah trees and pelts over rocks. Fox then dumps Magpie in the hot desert and tells her “Now you and Dog will know what it is like to be truly alone.” And he leaves her there. Slowly, jiggety hop she makes the long journey home.

Sun 19 Sep - Central Coast LETS Love thy neighbour TRADE DAY
Details: This is a combined trade day with Sydney and Hunter LETS, so come along and find out about trading with neighbouring LETSystems.
From 10am to 1pm.
Central Coast LETS - Helping people to help themselves... in so many ways!
More people are discovering that money (that stuff that allows us to trade among ourselves and buy goods and services) is in limited supply. Or is it?
Are dollars and cents the only thing we can use to value our time and our resources? Can the social stigma of being 'unemployed' or 'poor' be avoided?
Everyone has something to offer. Everyone's talents and time are worth something, even if they aren't able to trade them for money. It isn't money itself that is the 'valuable' commodity. Currency is the way we are able to tell how many hours we need to work before we can afford the week's worth of groceries or to pay someone to pull the weeds out of our garden.
A Local Exchange Trading System (LETS) is a simple non-profit system that allows members to trade services and goods with other local people, without money!
It's a sort of 'green economics' - it encourages local trading. Members provide services to other members. This can be anything from fixing a fence, to baking a cake, or walking the dog. Goods such as children's toys and clothing can also be traded. The group has businesses involved, including printers, counsellors and training organisations. Members are given a 1000 debit and credit limit of the local currency (called 'Shells') and can begin trading straight away. There are regular market days to allow members to meet face to face and promote trading.
There are 100's of offerings online at our website.
The group is also a contributer to Kiva to help alleviate poverty, so helping people to help themselves happens at the local level, as well as a global level. 'Think global, act local'... even better, act on both!
We also have a facebook event link.
