Join keen fisherman and Artist John Butler to explore the techniques of gyotaku (from Japanese gyo “fish” + taku “ print”). Dating from the mid 1800s fishermen would take ink, brushes and rice papers to sea to record their catches and Samurai are reported to settle their fishing competitions with print records of their catch.
You will learn the basic techniques utilising silicone rubber fish to avoid the gallery smelling like a fish market, but John will have examples of his real fish prints on paper and silks, as well as instructional videos.
Limited to 6 attendees. $200 covers all materials.
4+ hours from 10 am to 2 pm.
