Vaccine Open to More in the Community

Posted: 8 Jun 2021
Following a Federal Government announcement on Friday 4 June, Coast & Country Primary Care will be able to vaccinate more people against COVID-19 at their Erina Respiratory Clinic from today.

The new eligibility criteria includes people aged over 40, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders aged 16 years and over, NDIS participants aged 16 years and over, and carers of NDIS participants of any age.

Since opening Expressions of Interest for the Pfizer vaccine, Coast & Country Primary Care has received over 2,000 responses from people in the community ready to be vaccinated. “We will be contacting people today who have expressed their interest to be vaccinated and meet the new eligibility criteria,” says David McLeod, Executive Manager of Primary Health and Community at Coast & Country Primary Care.

The Respiratory Clinic can delivery almost 1,500 vaccines each week, with both AstraZeneca and Pfizer available. “We have had people asking if they can choose which vaccine they receive, but we are required to administer vaccines according to ATAGI guidelines,” Mr McLeod says.

ATAGI guidelines stipulate that people over the age of 50 receive AstraZeneca, with people under the age of 50 receiving Pfizer. At present, there is no advice around providing vaccines to people under the age of 16.

If you have not completed an expression of interest, but are eligible under the new criteria, you can book an appointment for a vaccine at Coast & Country Primary Care. Coast & Country Primary Care is encouraging eligible people with questions or concerns about being vaccinated to book an appointment to speak with a clinician.

“There has been a lot of information going around about vaccinations and eligibility, and some mixed messages. We encourage people to speak with our clinicians to ensure you’re getting the most current and correct information,” Mr McLeod says, “We are experiencing high call volumes, so if you want to make a booking for a vaccine or to speak with a clinician, please book online.”
