The Search Is On for the Coast's next Young Voices to be 'Discovered'

Young Coasties are invited to showcase their singing and song writing talents and enhance their professional skills as part of Central Coast Council's highly successful program, Discovered.

Returning in 2020 for its ninth year, Discovered is a professional development program for Central Coast singers and singer/songwriters aged 7 to 24 years. The program also includes an exciting competition component, where participants can showcase their skills for the chance to win a share of an impressive prize pool.

Council Acting Director Connected Communities, Phil Cantillon said the journey of Discovered develops young voices, builds community and grows skills for youth.

"Discovered is more than a competition - it is a pathway for the Coast's young people to explore a career in singing, develop skills and confidence, and form lasting connections with peers and local industry professionals," said Mr Cantillon.

"Beyond the event series, Discovered Voices and the Music Pathways Program supports young musicians to develop their experience, increase exposure and broaden their audience base, while also providing performance opportunities.

"Whether you're a seasoned performer or a budding talent hoping to further develop your skills and confidence, Discovered is the perfect platform to hone your talent."

Mayor Lisa Matthews said that Discovered aims to connect young people with our community, foster creative arts and provide learning pathways.

"Discovered has become a much-loved annual program for young people on the Central Coast, as well as the broader community," said Mayor Matthews.

"We are integrating art and performance into public life while supporting businesses and local leaders to mentor young people in skill development."

Discovered has supported and mentored some of the Coast's most celebrated young musicians, including 'The Voice' winner Karise Eden, 'Australia's Got Talent' champ Fletcher Pilon and most recently, Kelly Griffith (performing as Elaskia) whose singles have featured on 'Home and Away', 'Dynasty' and 'Royals'.

Due to COVID-19, the program has been adapted to include an interactive online component this year, where participants can submit their entries via video for the chance to progress to the heats.

Applications are now open, with participants encouraged to submit their online entries from today until 23 October 2020.

Young people can also now register for the Discovered Voices program, launching at The Hub Erina on Thursday 17 September, as well as the upcoming professional development workshops taking place throughout the September/October school holidays.

Discovered is supported by Central Coast music industry personalities and entities including Gina Jeffreys, Rod McCormack and Musicians Making A Difference (MMAD).
