The Art House Announces Huge Summer 2019 Program
The Art House has launched its program for the school holidays, and the line-up is so good that this summer the whole family will be heading straight from the beach to the theatre.
In The Heights - January 10-12
First up, The Art House stage will be transformed into a vibrant Manhattan street corner as The Art House presents its first all-star musical, ‘In The Heights’. The four-time Tony Award-winning show comes to Sydney Opera House Concert Hall in mid-January, but not before an exclusive premiere season at The Art House.
In a coup for the Central Coast, not only will The Art House present this salsa-fuelled musical, but leading its all-star cast is Central Coast local and Hi-5 star, Joe Kalou. The show is also choreographed by nationally recognized Central Coast-born choreographer Amy Campbell.
Hot on the heels of In The Heights comes a mini comedy festival featuring a clutch of some of the best-known Australian Comedians. Whether it’s a single show or, for the more dedicated comedy fan, a four-show pass, The Art House is banking on there being a show for just about every kind of comedy fan.
Tom Ballard - Wednesday January 16
Winner of the Best show at Sydney Comedy Festival 2017, best comedy at Edinburgh Fringe and Winner of zeitgeist-riding brand of comedy to The Art House for one night only.
Luke McGregor & Tommy Little Comedy Double Bill - Saturday January 19
Two of the biggest names in Australian Comedy – Tommy Little and Luke McGregor are bringing their bromance to The Art House.
Peter Helliar - Sunday January 20
Since bursting onto the scene back in the 1990’s as a cast member on Rove, there’s not much that Helliar hasn’t done. Most recently Helliar has become a familiar face in Australian households as he brings home the laughs most evenings on Channel Ten’s nightly news program The Project.
For kids, there are plenty of opportunities to get them theatre-lovers away from their screens and into a show or a school holiday workshop.
Escape from Trash Mountain - Show and Trash Puppet Workshop – January 18 -19
A kids show with an environmental message! Join the puppet heroes as they escape the dreaded landfill in search of a better life. Be amazed as they fight trash bats, navigate treacherous ravines, and outwit hideous trash monsters! Kids can create their own trash puppet in the Trash Puppet Workshops.
Children are Stinky - Show and Circus Workshop – January 21 -23
Against a backdrop of high calibre circus, a rocking ‘90s soundtrack and genuine belly laughs, this acrobatic duo’s attempts to prove kids STINK are met with messy, ridiculous and hysterical twists. They only succeed in proving that children are awesome … and they know it! Book the show + workshop package and kids will be taught circus skills by the performers!
