The ALL-NEW Pirates of Penzance, like you’ve never seen it before!
Hayes Theatre Co are at it again, along with the commissioning support of The Art House, as they lovingly re-create the Gilbert & Sullivan classicThe Pirates of Penzance. The bonus is the signature twist that audiences have come to expect from a Hayes adaptation.
“Pirates has such a wonderful, mischievous irreverence in its DNA, and I’ve tried to harness that and build on it in the new script and lyrics for this adaptation. The songs are absolute solid-gold classics, and the characters are so entertaining and memorable - our goal is to serve them the best way we can. Gathering this insanely talented group of performers makes me even more excited to share this new version of Pirates with the world.” –Director Richard Carroll
This production of The Pirates of Penzance will be taken on by just five bold talented performers including much loved actor Jay Laga’aia. Audiences know him from on screen blockbusters such asStar Wars and Nim’s Island, on-stage credits include Grease, The Lion King andWICKED and his long run with ABC’s Playschool. Jay will take on the role of The Pirate King (and more!) as each cast member will perform multiple roles and together create all the music (that’s right – no orchestra!) The rest of the talented cast includes Maxwell Simon (Assassins, Moulin Rouge), Brittanie Shipway (The Lovers, The Dismissal), cabaret star Trevor Jones and Billie Palin (RENT, Godspell).
Premiering at The Art House before moving to Sydney, this G&S classic has been brought back to raucous new life for a 21st century audience. This will beThe Pirates of Penzance as audiences have never seen it before and the Central Coast gets the first look. For an extra immersive theatre experience, patrons have the option to book their seats on the stage to be amongst the action as the show happens around them.
The Art House and Hayes Theatre Co. uphold a strong relationship and will continue to work together to bring audiences exhilarating, high quality productions that will impress and could even convert the most unlikely musical theatre cynic.
The Pirates of Penzance is re-vamped, re-worked, re-adapted and still upholds the reputation of the classic. See it over three performances at The Art House this February. Join the pizazz of Opening Night on Friday 7th February to be the first ever audience to see this show and be part of the red-carpet special occasion!
