A concert to reignite your fire!

Phoenix Collective and Central Coast Conservatorium present, Tango Origins & Passion, the 4th concert in Phoenix Collective’s 2018 recital series.

“First, you feel the vibe, then go with the beat or the melody Tango ignites emotions within the body. It lures its listeners to the deep connections of its syncopated rhythms”, says Phoenix Director-violinist Dan Russell.

Joining Phoenix Collective forces are acclaimed national and international musicians, Maggie Ferguson (bandoneon) and Katie Robinson (piano).

The ensemble will stage early and traditional works from the birthplace of tango, Buenos Aires, and by the works by the father of Nuevo Tango, Astor Piazzolla.

A scholar of the orchestral tango at Orquesta Escuela de Tango Emilio Balcarces in Buenos Aires, Maggie Ferguson says, “Join us on a 20th Century musical journey that fuses Tango history, styles, anecdotes and joyous audience participation.

The emphasis in this music lies very much on interpretation. Audiences will experience the complex rhythms and abrupt pauses of intensely intimate tango, the poetry of Tango’s intimate distance: deliberately sharp, firm and intense.”

Pianist Katie Robinson adds …”Tango is unique in its mix of sensuality, swing and pathos... such a thrill to work with wonderful musicians who share my love of this extraordinary music that woos the world.”

Supported by the Central Coast Conservatorium and NSW Government under the Regional Conservatorium Grants Funding.
