New Era for Science and Technology at Northlakes High School

Term 2 sees a new exciting era commence for Science and Technology teaching with the appointment of Mr Paul Devonshire (Head Teacher Science) and Mr Tim Teys (Head Teacher Technological and Applied Studies) to Northlakes High School following state-wide merit selection processes.

Paul Devonshire comes to Northlakes High School with a wealth of leadership experience having previously been HT Science at Asquith Girls High School. Paul holds a Bachelor of Education with Honours in Science and has received the Newcastle University medal in education for Chemistry and Physics. Paul has extensive experience teaching overseas having teaching and leading roles in Saudi Arabia, Indonesia (Bali) and China.

Paul believes that enthusiasm and engagement in learning is a direct result of highly visible teacher passion and knowledge for their subject, collaborative planning of rich teaching and learning resources, and ongoing communication with and engagement of students and parents in education. Paul aspires to create an inclusive community supporting young people to realise their potential, becoming life-long learners.

Tim Teys was previously relieving HT TAS at Francis Greenway High School where he was highly regarded as an innovative teacher of Technology. As well as his Bachelor of Education, Tim holds qualifications in Furnishings/Cabinet Making, Construction and Metals/Engineering. Tim has significant experience in designing and delivering quality Information and Communication Technology resources for the classroom and supporting other teaching staff in their use of technology.

Tim’s vision for his appointment to Northlakes High School is to provide students with essential knowledge and skills in an interactive, engaging and safe learning environment in which they are encouraged to ask questions and think critically about the world around them.

Principal Warren Welham enthusiastically welcomed both Paul and Tim to the staff of Northlakes High School and looks forward to seeing their impact on enhancing teaching and learning in the areas of Science and Technology.
