NSW's largest indigenous sporting event is coming to the Central Coast over the October long weekend - bringing an abundance of sports entertainment and tourists to our region.

The 49th NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout will take place 4 to 7 October 2019 at the Central Coast Regional Sporting & Recreation Complex inTuggerah, and is run by the Newcastle All Blacks team, who took out the title at last year's event.

Also referred to as 'The Koori Knockout', this mass participation sporting event showcases some of the best Indigenous Rugby League talent in the country and holds a highly regarded and significant place on the Indigenous calendar.

Mayor Jane Smith said Council is proud to be hosting such a significant national event on the Central Coast.

"This is a great opportunity for our local community to be a part of one of the best rugby league competitions in Australia," Mayor Smith said.

"With over 140 teams participating and thousands of spectators, it will deliver a significant and lasting boost to our local economy.

"We are looking forward to extending a warm welcome to all visitors and expect they will enjoy the exceptional facilities on offer at the Regional Sporting Complex and the great services and experiences on offer across the region."

"It's exciting to see that this event is strongly supported by Central Coast Council and many other organisations such as Awabakal Limited, NSW Aboriginal Land Council, Darkinjung LALC and the Federal Government," said Newcastle All Blacks President Edward Smith.

"We expect this year to be the largest and best on record!"

Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council's deputy chairman Barry (BJ) Duncan added "Darkinjung is proud to support this event on DLALC Country.  It's board and members are excited that this event will happen on the Central Coast and will benefit greatly to the economy in the region."

In February, Central Coast Council won the bid to host this year's NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout in partnership with the Newcastle All Blacks team, and since then the newly completed $23milion sporting facility has continued to secure significant regional events including the recent Rugby Union u10/u11 State Gala, the 25th Coasties Cup (Baseball) and the upcoming NSW Touch Football Country Championships.
