This Spring, The Art House and Musicians Making a Difference present a night of poetry and spoken word by 10 up-and-coming local performers.

The Street Poets are a group of inspiring young artists who are supported by Musicians Making a Difference (MMAD), a charity which uses the power of music, dance and mentoring to inspire young people, especially those who have suffered emotional abuse, neglect and disadvantage, to overcome their challenges, break negative cycles and make a difference within the community.

Many of the young performers, such as poet Brittany, have overcome various obstacles in order to find their talent. The 20-year-old began writing poetry in 2016 after leaving an abusive relationship. Other young performers have overcome issues like addiction, homelessness or low self-esteem in order to create a unique brand of poetry and develop the confidence to perform.

The Central Coast-based Street Poets have seen remarkable success already. Performer Imke Bester recently featured at the ‘She the Change’ rally on the Central Coast, and Andrew Cox has performed at Parliament House, the Art Gallery of NSW, The Museum of Contemporary Art and Sydney Town Hall.

Their poetry is raw, emotional and powerful, and the show at The Art House will be a full performance with lighting, dramatisation, music and more. These young artists are testament what can be achieved when the Central Coast youth are challenged, mentored and given the opportunity to develop.

The poets include, Andrew Cox, Samm Tracy, Imke Bester, Brittany Ramage, Roje Ndayambaje, Olivia Wolfe, Rachael Williams, Marissa Niven, Brayden Chou-lee, and Dylan Nunn. The show will also incorporate original music from talented local musicians Josh Corkill, Jeremy Mondel and Jack Berry.
