There’s a new skate park coming to Tunkuwallin Oval at Gwandalan, and Central Coast Council is inviting the community to help shape its design by participating in an in-person design workshop, or filling in an online survey

Central Coast Council Director Community and Recreation Services, Melanie Smith said now is the time for our community and local skaters or riders to help design the revised skate park.

“The existing skate park is at the end of its life and ready for a revised modern facility to meet the needs of the community and growing number of families in this area,” Ms Smith said.

“This is a facility for the community, and we want to ensure that locals have the chance to tell us what they want to see in the new design - including the style, layout, components, and which wheels they want to ride on.

“Council has engaged a specialist skate park design contractor that will use this community feedback to create concept designs, and we will present these back to the community to see if we got it right.”

The online survey is live until 5pm, 24 June 2024 at yourvoiceourcoast.com

Attend the design workshop with the skate park specialist:
•    Date: Wednesday 12 June
•    Time: 6.30pm to 7.30pm
•    Location: Tunkuwallin Community Hall, 130 Kanangra Drive, Gwandalan
•    Register to attend the workshop at yourvoiceourcoast.com

Council is funding the design and build of the new skate park, with construction anticipated to commence early 2025, with completion by mid-2025.

Central Coast Council Administrator, Rik Hart said these engagement activities allow the community to provide feedback on major plans in their neighbourhood, and influence the development and delivery of quality Council facilities which meet their needs and aspirations.

“Council invests in purpose built, safe and engaging skate parks and recreational areas because of the many community benefits these facilities provide, and to meet the growing popularity of skateboarding and scootering across widening age groups, genders and abilities,” Mr Hart said.

“I encourage community members to have their say by jumping online to complete the short survey or coming along to the design workshop to help shape the delivery of this new skate park at Gwandalan.”

For more information, and to have your say on the design of the revised Gwandalan skate park, go to yourvoiceourcoast.com by 5pm, Monday 24 June 2024.
