Fastrak Fitness opens in Erina on the Central Coast
Fastrak Fitness has opened its doors to provide citizens of the Central Coast with access to Electro Muscle Stimulation (EMS) fitness training. EMS was pioneered by the legendary Bruce Lee as an aid to his martial art regime but is now widely recognised as suitable for improving the health and fitness of all ages.
“In only a twenty-minute session its unique technology activates muscle groups across your body in a way that simple exercises enable the same result that you would achieve in a 90- minute session in a traditional gym”, says Maurie Dobbin founder of Fastrak. “Moreover, no weights are used meaning that its suitable for those with joint issues that would otherwise prevent persons attending a gym” he concludes.
EMS has been widely adopted throughout Europe with more than 5,000 studios in operation but is relatively new in Australia. Super athletes such as Usain Bolt and ‘Rafa’ Nadal regularly use EMS to complement their training regimes.
EMS is also highly suitable in rehabilitation after injury as specific areas of the body can be targeted and exercises designed to accelerate the healing process.
EMS has a wide range of benefits for stroke patients. From improving motor skills to preventing atrophy, EMS can help overcome many of the side effects of stroke.
Even those with Diabetes can benefit from the application of EMS. Patients with type 2 diabetes are recommended to undertake exercise training to improve glycaemic control. A recent study concluded that EMS might emerge as a novel additional therapeutic mode of exercise training and could help patients to overcome their sedentary lifestyle.
But the majority of those that will benefit from this technology are average members of the community who simply lack either the motivation or the time to attend a gym. The past six months of COVID-19 restrictions has led many to carry more weight than is healthy while weak muscles put them at risk of injuries.
Fastrak has been founded by the husband and wife team of Maurie and Cathy Dobbin. Maurie is an entrepreneur who has founded a number of companies with a focus on leading edge technologies. His biography has been published in Volume 2 of Unsung Business Heroes.
He has also played field hockey for over fifty years and still plays today in the Newcastle Masters competition. During his hockey career he has played in teams that have won Gold Medals in the European and World Masters Hockey Championships.
Cathy was a registered nurse for over forty years specialising in ICU and midwifery. She founded and managed a nursing agency that employed over 200 nurses serving public and private hospitals throughout Sydney. She has many other interests including healthy cooking.
Fastrak has recruited three highly experienced personal trainers to staff its exercise sessions with each of them able to design programs tailored to an individual’s needs.
Fastrak is partnered with XBody the world’s leading supplier of EMS technology with their innovative approach enabling classes to follow on an on-screen avatar demonstrating the manner in which exercises are carried out.
