Changes At Killarney Vale Bombers
The new president is local businessman, Corey Shackleton, who came up through the junior ranks at the Bombers. He replaces Paul Forster, who held the position for fifteen years and was happy to retire following a great period of leadership, including several premierships in various grades, substantial development of the ground at Adelaide Street Oval Tumbi Umbi and significant improvements to the clubrooms.
Shackleton had been the club’s senior coach for the past seven years and felt this part of his commitment was coming to an end so his elevation to president is a real positive move by the club membership.
The new senior coach at the Bombers is Ben Roberts, former coach at the Sydney premiership club of Pennant Hills and this year’s coach of the NSW/ACT senior side which defeated Tasmania at Hobart in July. He stepped into a player-coach role at age 24, giving him over 16 years of coaching experience upon taking up the role at Killarney Vale. His previous experience included stints at clubs, Coolangatta and Carara in the Queensland AFL and saw him named as QAFL Coach of the Year whilst coaching Carara.
Other executive positions at the club were filled by continuing Vice President, Terry Ford, Secretary, Cassie White, Treasurer, Ben Simpson, with the following six elected to the committee: John Pidgeon, Theresa Haggerty, Ryan Mahalm, Kirsty Raff, Lauren Horne and Anne Bailey.
