In the Clubs 20th anniversary year, Round 3 of the Central Coast Speedway Kart Club Championship was held at Gosford Showground on Saturday 21st March.

The Twilight round is one of the highlights of the annual racing calendar with racing starting at lunchtime and the finals held under floodlit conditions.

Round 3 saw a plethora of drivers racing without P plates for the first time, while the grandstand had many an inquisitive visitor from the recent Central Coast Regional Show watching the racing.

Cadet 9 saw the return of outstanding young racer Blaxx Caton and he didn’t disappoint with 4 wins from 4 races and a perfect 100 point round. Mark Angilley and Dylan Kelly fought hard for second and third respectively on the day. Special mention to Abellah Debono with a solid 4th in heat 2.

Round 2 champion Luke Angilley and Joey Bisset led the way in Cadet 12 winning 2 of the races each on the night and Angilley ultimately winning the night overall. The consistency of Jarrod Garland and Jacob Hensby was to be admired with three seconds and three thirds respectively, the former taking out third place on the night. Improvement over a race meeting always demands attention and Leah Kelly’s run of 6th, 5th and 5th before a 4th in the feature race was a quality effort.

Junior KA4 was fiercely contested between Jac Laneyrie, Nathan Thompson and Joel Buettel.

Buettel took overall meeting honours with 2 race wins, with a race win each to Laneyrie and Thompson.

KA3 Medium was always looking like being a highlight if the pre-race banter at the race briefing was anything to go by. A small field of 4 put on a great show with an epic battle between father and son Phillip and Bubba Farrow. Gosford Speedway is no stranger to family warfare on wheel and after 2 wins to each it was ultimately Phillip who took meeting honours from Craig Blanch and Bubba third.

KT lights once again had everyone rushing to the fence to watch. This category never fails to deliver and Nick Gilbert (2), Sean Morley and Gary Morris all claimed race wins. While these gentlemen saluted the chequered flag it was a mighty overall performance from Caitlin Genner that claimed the ladies their first CCSKC round win of the year. Caitlin produced two fine seconds and a third to leave the boys in her dust and take the #1 podium spot.

In KT Medium, rookies Andy Duncan and Paul Zaia were able to play with the big boys at the pointy end of the field for the first time, after graduating from P plates. Both were able to gain a 4th place in a heat on the night.

But the real story here is the man named Bisset with Jason Bisset putting on an absolute masterclass of speedway karting and a perfect record of 4 race wins on the night.

Michael Russell and Wayne Hosie consistently produced the minor placings behind the Bisset express.

A fine night of racing and like most sports, there is something a bit special about performing under lights.

CCSKC races once a month at Gosford Showground with competitors ranging from 7 to 62 years of age. CCSKC holds ‘Come 'n' Try’ days throughout the year, which offer everyone a chance to have a go before making a commitment to the sport.

Details of the club’s Come 'n' Try days, race meetings and all other information can be found on the club website. The club is also on Facebook and Instagram (search Coast Karting).
