Central Coast Mountain Bike Club Wins My Community Project Funding
Ourimbah Mountain Bike Park is operated by Central Coast Mountain Bike Club a not for profit organisation run by volunteers. The park has extremely high usage rates with over 16700 rider laps completed in the last 10 months. Ourimbah Mountain Bike park is the only location on the Central Coast where mountain bikers can ride formal approved trails.
CCMTB Vice President Deanne Watkins states “that there has been a lot of behind the scenes work on grant applications and it feels great to secure funding for the both the club and the Central Coast Mountain Bike community at large.” CCMTB President Peter Cook adds “that he is extremely grateful to the community for supporting the project and that it sends a clear message of how much demand there is on the Central Coast for Mountain Bike infrastructure.” Mountain Biking has been grossly underfunded for decades and it is great to see a community driven response providing such a positive outcome. We are grateful to the NSW government for the My Community Project scheme.
David Harris MP, Member for Wyong added “The Ourimbah Mountain Bike track is rated number 1 in NSW by Singletracks.com and this funding will allow important upgrades to tracks and facilities. This will encourage riders from around the Country to visit, improving tourism opportunities and the economic benefits that go with that. I'm very pleased to support Central Coast Mountain bikes in their endeavours and wish them well as the work proceeds.”
Ourimbah Mountain Bike Park is open to the public and is free to ride, anyone can come and enjoy the trails. The park also hosts large scale participation events and competitive events from club to national level. The expansion of the Ourimbah Mountain Bike Park will draw more people to the Central Coast and provide a focal point for Mountain Biking on the Central Coast.
Mountain Biking is a boom sport with massive growth across all age demographics, it is a sport that brings great health benefits, gets people out enjoying the bush and we are lucky on the Central Coast to have access to extensive and beautiful bushland located in the Coastal Open space System. Mountain Biking is a sustainable environmentally friendly activity with very little impact on bushland and has been touted as potential tourism related economic driver for the Central Coast.
We encourage all Coasties to come and enjoy Ourimbah Mountain Bike Park and thank them again for supporting the Central Coast Mountain Bike Club and the Ourimbah Mountain Bike Park.
