The Community All-Stars team will be playing against local not-for-profit and NDIS Partner in the Community, Social Futures. 

Scott Jones, NSW Blind Cricket player who now works for Social Futures, has organised the game to showcase the sport of blind cricket and to celebrate International Day of People with Disability.

“Blind cricket is like standard cricket but the ball is hard plastic and filled with ball bearings so you can hear it coming, we also bowl underarm," Scott said.

“Everyone playing will wear experiential glasses that replicate the experience of different vision impairments.

“Most of my work mates haven’t played blind cricket before so I don’t think we will have an advantage.

“It will be a great match and we’d love to have lots of people in the community come along and watch this match on Tuesday [December 6] from 12.30pm.

“As part of the celebrations, we are having a free community BBQ and One Culture, Blind Sports NSW and Vision Australia will also be there running ‘come and try’ sessions for blind and other disability sports, everyone is welcome!”

In his role with Social Futures, Scott also delivers blind cricket sessions to Central Coast schools, which help students develop an awareness of disability and prompts them to think about how the community can adapt and be inclusive to all – in sport, at workplaces and in the broader society.

Scott extends his thanks to the community members playing in the Central Coast community blind cricket match next Tuesday.

“And I can’t wait to find out how the Community All-Star team will perform. They have the NSW blind cricket coach on their team so maybe they will be in with a chance, game on!” Scott said

The Central Coast Blind Cricket Match will take place at Adcock Park, Gosford, on Tuesday [December 6] from 12.30 to 4pm. Everyone is welcome!
