Catapult Dance and award-winning choreographer Cadi McCarthy is bringing a fascinating new work to the Art House stage.

What do we really look like to other people? What masks do we use to conceal our real identities? How do we hide our insecurities? Award-winning choreographer Cadi McCarthy and the five performers of Catapult Dance Company tackle some personal questions in their brand-new dance-theatre piece, ‘That Place In Between’, which shows at The Art House for one night only on October 19.

Based on a series of characters, That Place In Between looks at the games we play to cover our insecurities, the facades we develop to conceal our real identity and the masks and devices we use to deal with the tenuous world around us – all told through athletic, imaginative and visually compelling contemporary dance. Featuring an outstanding professional dance cast, Catapult will launch this new work in October with a limited season at Newcastle Civic Theatre and The Art House, Wyong.

This is the third nationally-recognised professional dance company to perform at The Art House, which hosted Sydney Dance Company in 2017 and Australian Dance Theatre in both 2017 and 2018.

The production was conceived choreographed and conceived Cadi McCarthy, who is the Founder & Director of Catapult dance and has been actively engaged in dance for decades as a professional dancer, choreographer, educator and director.

In a piece by Dance Australia, Cadi McCarthy was described as having “a knack of capturing characteristic gestures that she strings together, like stills in a film, to create fascinating sequences” Dance Australia
