Australian Rockers Eskimo Joe hit the Central Coast
From humble indie-rock beginnings in Fremantle WA to one of the biggest bands to ever come out of Australia, Eskimo Joe will play at The Art House as part of their National Acoustic Tour, which sees the band take audiences on a career-spanning journey through their repertoire of hits.
And it’ll be quite the journey, with over 20 years in the biz, the ‘Eskys’ A.K.A. Stuart MacLeod, Joel Quartermain and Kavyen Temperley, have an expansive catalogue, from debutant hits like ‘Sweater’, to juggernaut tracks like ‘Black Fingernails, Red Wine’, that soundtracked a generation throughout the 90s and 2000s.
With 6 studio albums, 35 ARIA nominations, 8 ARIA Awards, 3 International Song-Writing Awards, 11 WAMi Awards and 2 APRA Awards, Eskimo Joe are one of the country’s most decorated homegrown acts but it’s on stage where the band truly shines. From arenas to pubs, they’ve done it all, including Coaster Festival at Gosford in 2009, which was the band’s last Central Coast gig.
With limited NSW dates, The Art House’s July show could be the only chance for Eskimo Joe fans from across the Central Coast, Hunter and Greater Sydney to catch the band live before they head to Queensland.
The latest in a wave of contemporary music acts hitting Wyong ala The Art House, the performing arts centre’s Executive Director Anne-Marie Heath said it was an exciting time to be a music lover on the Coast.
“Our patrons told us they wanted more live music and that’s what we’re delivering. Bringing artists of Eskimo Joe’s calibre to the Coast isn’t always easy when we’re competing with Sydney and the Hunter, but through hard work The Art House is changing that, and I think more artists are realising just how special shows in smaller, more intimate venues can be.” Heath said.
With Eskimo Joe in July, Jimmy Barnes in August, and a few other big names yet to be announced, there’s never been a better time to check out your local theatre and get in the know about what’s on at The Art House.
