Coast & Country Primary Care have recently launched their inaugural Aboriginal Scholarship Program.

This follows an announcement earlier this year that the Coast & Country Primary Care’s Board of Directors unanimously voted in favour of the scholarship program, which aims to improve diversity of the local community services workforce.

Coast & Country Primary Care’s Chair of the Board, Duncan Bennet, said he was “proud to lead an organisation that creates opportunities to give back to the community”.

The scholarship program provides financial assistance for textbooks and other learning resources for Aboriginal people undertaking studies in community services related fields, and a commitment to prioritising them for their student placements.

CEO of Coast & Country Primary Care, Kathy Beverley says “The program will run for three years, and we will be awarding eight scholarships each year. Our Reconciliation Action Plan Committee are leading the implementation of the program, and we are proud to deliver meaningful outcomes of our Reconciliation Action Plan.”

A Reconciliation Action Plan is a formal commitment to work towards reconciliation, endorsed by Reconciliation Australia. It demonstrates an ongoing commitment to the importance that culture and community have to improving the health and wellbeing and raises awareness of the challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people both past and present.

Students interested in applying for a scholarship are asked to submit a resume, proof of enrolment and a brief cover letter explaining why they have chosen their area of study. For more information about Coast & Country Primary Care’s Aboriginal Scholarship Program, please visit here.
