A week into the new year, just 77 percent of resolution makers are still on track, and after six months, only about 40 percent will have stayed the course. The team at Providence Medical has put together a list of new year’s resolutions that are easy to follow and stick to and will hopefully ensure that your 2019 is a happy and healthy one.

Clean Out Your Kitchen
It’s time to get ruthless in the kitchen! Toss out unhealthy products (chips, sugary treats, soft drink etc) from your pantry, fridge, car and office and replace with good-for-you options, like carrots and air-popped popcorn. Make sure you don't have to dig deep to find them.
Plan for Snack Attacks
The hours between mid-afternoon and dinnertime are when cravings kick in hard so be prepared. Before leaving for work, pack a protein-complex carb snack in your bag. Think: hummus and pita chips or pistachios and a pear. Then, when a snack attack strikes, you'll have a go-to treat to avoid unhealthy office snacks.
Change Up Your Work Out
Get-in-shape goals tend to fizzle as early as the third week of January, per recent data based on Facebook searches. Yet some keep at it. What's their secret? People who are successful are more likely to view fitness as a permanent lifestyle change, not an activity they can give up once they reach a number on the scale, so integrate activity into your daily routine and make it realistic to achieve and enjoyable for you to more easily sustain.
Say No to Something Every Week
A simple "I can't, sorry" is a helpful immediate fix. Regularly overextending yourself forces you to put your own needs behind others' requests. So, start saying ‘No’ and gain more time back.
Get Your Skin Checked
With approximately, two in three Australians being diagnosed with skin cancer by the time they are 70, regular skin checks with your doctor is crucial to ensure early detection. Remember to be sun smart and always slip, slop, slap.
Take a Time-Out For You
Now we know this can sometimes be easier said than done, especially when busy family lives are involved. But it is critical to take time out for you and don’t feel guilty about it. If you make the time to care for yourself then in turn you will be able to care for others.
Most of us don't think of sleeping as actively doing something, so we don't plan it. When you schedule in sleep, it then becomes a priority, the same way your gym time and work meetings are priorities. Set a reminder to go off a half hour before you plan to hit the sack and enjoy better quality slumber time and a more refreshed you.
Make a To-Don't List
After you write out your to-do list for the day, ask yourself which tasks really need to get done—and which aren't realistic or important. The latter constitute your to-don't list. Drawing a line through them removes energy-draining clutter and helps you to maintain focus and avoid feelings of overwhelm.
See Your GP
Get to know your doctor and ensure that you keep up to date with relevant health checks and immunisations etc. Your GP is there to support your health and wellness journey, so be sure to use them.
