Ö A journey of extravagant virtuosity & lively conversations

Central Coast’s own Chamber Orchestra, Concertante Ensemble is returning to Greenway Chapel on Saturday 2 June with the first of its exciting new 2018 Concert Series.

We are excited to present Double and Triple concerti featuring fabulous guest soloists Neal Peres Da Costa (Harpsicord), Bridget Bolliger (Flute), Rachel Tolmie (Cor Anglais) and Concertante Ensemble’s own Annika Stagg and Caroline Hobbs (cellos) and Karina Moss-Hollands (violin)

A perennial favourite, Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 for harpsicord, is a journey of extravagant harpsicord virtuosity – a conversation interwoven with flute and violin.

“Brandenburg 5 has always held a special place in my heart. I first heard it when I was a teenager listening to an old vinyl record while doing my homework. It was just so exhilarating to hear a harpsichord and of course the extraordinary cadenza from the first movement,” says Neal Peres da Costa a published author, scholar and harpsicord specialist and Professor of Historical Performance at Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

A rare degree of gracious counterpoint characterises Honneger’s Concerto da Camera for Flute, Cor Anglais and Strings, in marked contrast to the vivid imitative style of Vivaldi’s Double Concerto for 2 Cellos.

Concertante Ensemble and our soloists combine to perform Rameau’s opera-ballet Les Indes galantes (The amorous Indians) which was first performed in Paris in 1736.

Neal adds, “Rameau, with his penchant for adventurous harmony and texture, takes us into an exotic world with music that was very forward for its time.”

“My passion is to bring exceptionally quality chamber music with local, Australian and international performers to local audiences,” says Concertante Ensemble’s founder Karina Moss-Hollands.

Cellist Annika Stagg began her burgeoning career at the Central Coast Conservatorium and has recently returned to Australia after studying in Germany.

Caroline Hobbs, Concertante Ensemble’s lead cello is a teacher at the Central Coast Conservatorium.

Our Cor Anglais, Rachel Tolmie, is a former teacher at the Conservatorium and principal Oboe with Symphony Central Coast.
