The Hinterland
Explore the Central Coast Hinterland
Beyond the coastal towns of the Central Coast, experience the tranquility and surprises that await you within the Central Coast Hinterland. Discover spectacular Australian countryside from the Watagan State Forest and Watagan Mountains to the Dooralong and Yarramalong Valleys.
Somersby, situated just off the Sydney to Newcastle Freeway, is home to The Australian Reptile Park, Central Coast's premier attraction. Here you can discover amazing reptiles, koalas, kangaroos, spiders, a large variety of birds and of course "Elvis" the crocodile, NSW's crankiest 5 metre croc! Not only is the park a great place to visit for the whole family, but the Zoo is the only one in Australia committed to saving lives with a Venom-Milking Program in place for the past 50+ years, saving over 300 lives each year!
Your Central Coast experience is incomplete without a visit to the stunning Somersby Falls. The Falls offer a great picnic spot with abundant wildlife. If you enjoy steps, then a walk down to the foot of the falls is strongly recommended, especially for the keen photographer.
Further a field, discover Mangrove Creek Dam, yet another peaceful location for a family picnic amidst the tranquil bush land.
