Generation Y is the title of a new show from the Developing Artists of NAISDA Dance college. The student body chose the name in part because that is who they are – aged between 16 and 27, they are Generation Y.
Comprising works by contemporary choreographers, including the Developing Artists, Generation Y sparkles with excitement, passion and amusement. Four of the pieces are by student choreographers; Taree Sansbury, Kasabad Warusam, Rodney Beatty and Thomas Kelly. Another three works have been choreographed by the dance professionals who also teach at NAISDA as well as a major work by Artist in Residence Morganics. Directed by Diploma year Developing Artists, Thomas Kelly, Generation Y showcases the work of the student body and the diverse range of dance styles they learn during their four year course. For the first time Generation Y will feature NSW Traditional Aboriginal dances taught to the Developing Artists by cultural tutors Matthew Doyle and Peta Strachan.
Other highlights include a musical performance from In the Heights with represented choreography. This will showcase the singing talents of the Developing Artists, as well as their ability to adapt to a new genre. The second year Developing Artist, have a collaboration, under the supervision of Dance Co-coordinator Raymond D. Blanco that is a dramatic contrast with the romantic work choreographed by Francoise Angenieux focusing the ballet techniques the Developing Artists learn as a core part of the curriculum. At just one hour’s duration Generation Y is an excellent introduction to the NAISDA experience. The mid-year show is informal and held for the first time in NAISDA state of the art studio complex at Mt Penang Parklands.
Entry is by gold coin, but seating is limited so bookings are essential.
