Local Life Savers Say Thank You To Reliance
The club President and Treasurer hosted the event as a formal “thank you” to medical practice and principal sponsor Reliance GP Super Clinic, for their sponsorship contribution this year which has enabled the purchase of new patrol tents, critical surf lifesaving equipment, competitor uniforms and more.
The sponsorship commenced at the beginning of summer and Reliance has funded the North Avoca team throughout the season. North Avoca Club President Mathew Slattery explains “the generous financial support makes our job of providing a safe beach environment for our local community and visitors much easier”. Finances are chanelled into resources such as; training and education, first-aid, life-saving equipment for patrols, and participating in skill building for members.
“Reliance is committed to ensuring that people in our local community can participate in a safe and healthy environment” says Reliance Marketing Director Leonie Arnebark who saw the partnership as an opportunity to encourage preventative healthcare that is relevant to the lifestyle of our local community.
Volunteers have been patrolling North Avoca Beach since 1952.North Avoca Surf Life Saving Club was unofficially founded in 1952 in the garage of a local resident Don Davies in an effort to prevent deaths from drowning. Last season volunteer lifesavers made 68 rescues and conducted 230 preventative actions. With over 40 000 people visiting North Avoca Beach annually, beach safety is imperative.
The sponsorship came at a vital time for the club, with President Mathew Slattery stating “Before Reliance’s’ sponsorship our funds were very limited. It’s not only the financial support, but the emotional support from knowing that the community backs us and what we do here – it motivates these guys to get up each morning and do a full day on patrol.” Encouraging participation and more members means more security and safety measures for our local community.
Reliance GP Super Clinic is a locally owned and operated medical practice in West Gosford, with a new medical practice opening in Wyong in May. Dr.Rodney Beckwith, Reliance owner, Medical Director and also the Central Coast ambassador for the Children’s Medical Research Institute says “the community values of the North Avoca SLSC are aligned with our own values at Reliance. We will continue supporting them for the next three years and beyond” says Dr Beckwith. “The club encourages members to build skills that are applicable to their lives both on and off the beach. It’s important to educate preventative health and safety – in a way that is enjoyable and realistic for the average person - so we can lead happier and healthier lives.”
