Local Physio Keeping Aussie Swimmers In Peak Condition To Snare Medals At World Short Course In Canada

It may have been snowing in Windsor but the Australian Dolphins Swim team was on fire! The Australian Dolphins Swim Team kick started its four-year build up to Tokyo 2020 Olympics with an 11-medal haul - including two gold at the FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships (25m) in Windsor, Canada with local boy, Brett Doring from Coast Sport keeping the team in peak condition as head Physiotherapist.

Windsor welcomed 1,000 of the world’s best swimmers from more than 170 countries as they competed for World Championship glory in the 13th edition of the FINA World Swimming Championships 25m.The six-day meet concluded with the Dolphins adding a silver and two bronze medals to their total of two gold, two silver and seven bronze - with heartening performances by the medley relays.

The Dolphins 19-strong team, made up of six Olympians, 11 rookies and two World Championship representatives, acquitted themselves admirably at a meet which again highlighted the Aussies improvement around the world. Locally recognised physiotherapist and co-Director of Coast Sport in Tuggerah, Brett Doring was selected as the head physiotherapist in charge of the critical task of keeping the team of elite swimmers in tip top condition enabling optimal performance.

Australian head coach Jacco Verhaeren said he was more than pleased with the culture and performance of his new look team. “It’s great to see the mix of experience and the rookies and all of them performed well. They stepped up, which was needed to progress from heats to semi-finals and finals at this meet,” said Verhaeren.

Team Physiotherapist, Brett Doring charged with the task of treatment and management of injuries to ensure optimal performance was thrilled by “the swimmer’s stellar performances and personal best times across the board”. “It’s a great start for the next four years and definitely sets the tone for Australia” stated Doring who will be joining dolphins again in their quest for glory during the Tokyo 2020 target squad camp in Canberra this January.

The young team will then compete again for selection at the National Championships in April at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre. We wish them luck in their Olympic lead up and for all the up and coming swimmers who are lit by the Olympic dream.
