Changes to Pool Fencing Laws

The NSW Office of the Local Government (OLG) announced changes to swimming pool barrier regulations on 11 March 2016. Any home sold after 29 April 2016 must have a current pool inspection certificate that accompanies the contract of sale.

While swimming in backyard pools is a great Australian pastime for fun and exercise, it is also where  most drownings and near drownings occur in children under the age of five.

Even though the weather is cooling, it is important to check that the:

  1. Fence and gate are in good working condition
  2. Pool area and barrier are compliant with current laws
  3. Gate is always closed and not propped open
