Aussie Art Takes the Cake
Australian art is being consumed overseas, yet not on the walls of a gallery.
Australia’s own answer to Charlotte from Sex and the City, art curator Kerry Blanket from KAB Art Gallery, is used to supplying and advising on art investment to the who’s who around the world.
With clients including Guy Pearce and Carice Van Houten, Offsping’s Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer along with high-profile stylists, socialites and leaders of business and politics across Australia and the world; it’s safe to say Kerry works with the crème de la crème of the art world and knows a visual feast when she sees one.
Yet the icing on the cake in Kerry’s career has recently been inspiring famous cake makers in the USA who are jumping on board the competitive trend of visual cake making - Aussie style - with the results literally works of art! Yes, cake art is a thing!
Kerry’s suggested artworks, painted by Sally West, have been converted from canvas to cake, with the US art world lining up for a slice of the Aussie sweet life.
According to Kerry, it was a no-brainer to showcase Sally’s work, who is famous for her Australian landscape and still-life paintings.
“Many people who visit KAB Gallery had already compared Sally’s painting technique to cake icing, so it was great to see these ‘cake artists’ create a visual feast of some of her latest work.”
Artwork featured is by Sally West "Heatwave 29.12.16" Oil on Canvas 90x120cm AUD $6600
Sally West is exhibiting her figurative body of work at the KAB Art Gallery with viewing welcome from Wednesday 7th to the 18th of June, with a special meet the artist event held on Saturday 10th June (2-4pm). Cake provided.
